Special needs student alerts police after Titusville teacher’s aide allegedly sends sexually explicit photos to another student

TITUSVILLE, FLa. — A teacher’s aide in Titusville was arrested Monday after allegedly sending sexually explicit images to a 16-year-old student, according to police.

Lindsey Thorson, 27, of Titusville turned herself into police on charges of transmission of material harmful to minors and tampering with evidence, records show.

Police said the student, who attends Fieldston Preparatory School on Columbia Boulevard, had photos on his cellphone that were sent to him by Thorson.

Investigators said a facility member was told about the alleged incident, but it was a parent that first notified police.

Police said they responded to the school after reports of a runaway special needs student who later claimed they were sent the photos by the original student and feared they were going to get into trouble.

"This case provides an important reminder that school officials, by law, are mandatory reporters of suspected abuse, regardless of whether they believe the allegations or not,” said lead Detective Jessica Cabrera.

The school released a statement saying, “The safety of our students is Fieldston Prep’s highest priority. Fieldston Preparatory School has been educating students with a variety of disabilities in grades K-12 since 2003. Our mission is to develop, implement, and manage individual and therapeutic educational programs for all students in our care."

Officers said Thorson was booked into the Brevard County Jail.
