Driver safe after car bursts into flames on I-4

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla.,None — A massive car fire blocked a lane of traffic on I-4 in Seminole County on Monday.

The 2004 Jaguar was engulfed in flames on I-4 westbound near Lake Mary around 4 p.m.

WFTV reporter Q McCray spoke with the driver, who said he was driving back to his office when his car started riding rough.  A man pulled up next to him and told him his hood was on fire and to get out of the car.

“But the thing that makes me very pleased about all of this is that there was a very Good Samaritan who pulled up and told me to get out of the car [and that] this is dangerous,” said driver Scott Peelen. “I don't know who he is or who you are, but thank you very much.”

Officials said as firefighters prepared to put out the blaze, there was an explosion near the engine. Peelen said there were several other minor explosions and his entire car was melted, including the hood, engine and tires.

Crews said they were able to quickly get the fire under control, and no one was injured.

“In about 60 seconds the flames had grown to enormous  proportions,” Peelen said.

By the time emergency crews came, the car was destroyed.
