Carnival Cruise employee charged with molesting teen remains behind bars

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Carnival Cruise worker is accused of molesting a teen passenger while at sea, recently.

Yovany Suazo-Batiz, 46, told deputies he did nothing wrong, but investigators said a 15-year-old boy told them a different story.

According to the arrest report, the teen said Batiz approached him in the sauna and shower area Friday while his father was at the gym.

The teen described to deputies how Batiz allegedly grabbed him sexually in the secluded part of the ship.

According to the report, the teen then got his father from the gym and brought him to the sauna where he "pointed out the suspect" who then ran "wearing only a towel."

Deputies said the boy's father and other passengers helped hold down Batiz until ship security arrived.

Over the weekend a Carnival spokesperson said they run background checks on all employees.

On Monday, Channel 9's Deneige Broom emailed and called the company in an effort to find out just how much information they are able to get about employees from other countries. Batiz is a Honduran national.

By Monday evening, Carnival Cruise Lines had yet to respond to that question or questions about Batiz's history with the company.

Suazo-Batiz was charged with sexual battery of a person under 16 years of age and lewd and lascivious molestation

The report described the teen as "mentally defective."

A judge granted Batiz a $135,000 Sunday, but Batiz told the court he doesn't have money. He could remain in jail until his next court date in a month.
