CEO apologizes after millions of Florida awoken by emergency alert test sent in error

ORLANDO, Fla. — The CEO of the company that mistakenly sent out an emergency alert test is now apologizing to everyone in Florida.

Millions of people were awakened at 4:45 a.m. last Thursday when the alert went out over cellphones.

It was supposed to go out on television instead.

The CEO of Everbridge released a letter on Monday saying part of the mistake was human error.

“We have re-examined our procedures and are adding further safeguards to our platform so customers can only send you messages, when necessary,” according to the release.

The state has ended its contract with the company.
