MELBOURNE, Fla. — Charges have been filed against two men in Melbourne after they allegedly dressed as clowns and terrorized citizens over the course of five days, police said Thursday.
The first complaint was made Oct. 15, when investigators received two calls about a man dressed as a clown threatening to kill people with what appeared to be a bat or an ax, the Melbourne Police Department said.
The clown would then chase the victim, police said.
Another report of clown-related violence was made on Oct. 20, and the details of that case were similar to the others, investigators said.
Police identified two men as suspects in the case.
Investigators believe that Christopher D. McCarthy, 18, and Nicholas Antonellis, 20, dressed up as clowns, threatened a child and were responsible for the calls to police, the MPD said.
McCarthy is charged with aggravated assault and Antonellis is charged with being a principal to the crime in the first degree.
