‘A monster’: Man arrested in connection with deadly stabbing of Daytona Beach couple

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — An arrest has been made in the double fatal stabbing of a Daytona Beach couple, Chief Jakari Young announced late Thursday afternoon.

Young tweeted that Jean R. Macean was brought into custody with the help of US Marshals, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orlando Police Department.

Macean, 32, is a resident of Orlando. He was captured in the 5300 block of Pointe Via Circle around 11 a.m. Thursday, police said.

“This was one of the most brutal murders I’ve ever seen in my 20-plus years as a police officer in Daytona Beach,” Young said in a news release. “We want to thank the entire Daytona Beach community ... .”

While in police custody Thursday night, Macean told Channel 9 he is sorry for what he did. See the video below:

During a news conference Thursday evening, Young said that all residents and visitors of Daytona Beach “can breathe a sigh of relief” following Macean’s arrest.

Officers said Terry and Brenda Aultman were biking home from a night out when they were attacked on Wild Olive Avenue about a mile and a half south of their home. Young said during the news conference they “check all the boxes to keep themselves safe. Still, they were attacked.”

Their daughter Sarah spoke during the news conference, holding back tears and calling Macean a “monster” and saying the situation is “a nightmare that I never expected.”

“It doesn’t feel real and I don’ think it’ll ever feel real,” she said. “I lost my best friend,. My mother was the most caring, giving, selfless person in the world. To top it off, she was as funny as can be.”

Officials said Terry Aultman worked at the fulfillment center at Amazon’s Deltona branch. The company said it has grief counselors on hand for their employees.

Police said Brenda Aultman worked for Goodwill of North Florida since 2017, most recently as an assistant manager for the Palm Coast retail location. Company officials said grief counselors will be provided for several weeks as the team deals with the loss.

Daytona Beach police were offering a $50,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest in the case.

In a tweet, Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon congratulated members of the Fugitive Investigative Unit in collaboration with U.S. Marshals, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Daytona Beach Police Department.
