ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The jury is in deliberations for Markeith Loyd’s second murder trial.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Loyd in the fatal shooting of Lt. Debra Clayton in 2017. At the time, Loyd was on the run for killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon. Loyd was sentenced to life in prison for Dixon’s murder.

4:55 p.m. update
Within a half an hour of the jury heading into deliberations, Loyd complained to the judge about how his attorney handled the case.
Loyd said there were a bunch of witnesses he wanted called, like his niece and police officers.
He said if the officers would have let everyone on the force know that he was afraid of cops and that he was going to turn himself in, that this would have been different.
Loyd said it was law enforcement that put him and Lt. Debra Clayton in danger, not him.
He called the prosecutor a liar, and said his mind started to go blank and he couldn’t answer any more questions from the judge because he was so mad at how everything went down this week.
