Coast Guard offloads more than $27 million worth of cocaine in Florida

More than 3,600 pounds of cocaine were seized in the Caribbean and brought to South Florida.

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. — More than $27 million worth of cocaine is now off the streets after two U.S. Coast Guard operations in the Caribbean Sea.

The narcotics, along with four detainees, were offloaded Wednesday at Port Everglades by the crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma.

The operations involved multiple U.S. military and law enforcement agencies, as well as international partners.

The Coast Guard said the interdictions are part of ongoing efforts to stop maritime drug trafficking, disrupt transnational criminal organizations and prevent illegal narcotics from reaching communities across the United States.
