LAKELAND, Fla. — A 32-year-old convicted felon was seriously injured after being shot by deputies in Lakeland.
Detectives with a drug task force stopped Francis Perry on Golfview Street at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
He has an active warrant for his arrest.
Officers said they found methamphetamine in the car and as they approached the vehicle, Perry pulled out a gun and opened fire.
The officers returned fire, striking Perry multiple times.
Perry was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Deputies said he’s in critical condition.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
