Coronavirus: Three coronavirus cases confirmed in Volusia County, all travel-related

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County has three confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

Channel 9 learned Thursday that one of the individuals who tested positive was a member of a DeLand church.

The Florida Department of Health confirms that all three individuals were on a Nile River cruise, but cannot say which cruise, or if all three are related.

Here is what we know about the cases:

The Department of Health said Sunday that a 66-year-old woman tested positive.

On Monday, it released information about a second case, which was a 66-year-old woman.

On Thursday, health officials said a 70-year-old man tested positive for COVID-19.

Department of Health officials said are also seeking to identify those who may have been within 6 feet of those three people, for at least a few minutes while they were sick.

Those in close contact would be interviewed and be isolated if they show symptoms and their close contacts would then be interviewed.

Despite health officials saying they do not believe there is any evidence of a community spread, other groups are taking precautions.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced that starting Monday, there would be more deputies at its district offices to take reports over the phone for cases where no there are no suspects or immediate threats.

People who call 911 may be asked if they traveled to China, Iran, Italy, Japan or South Korea in the past 14 days, so first responders can take additional precautions.
