ORLANDO, Fla. — When Omar Mateen walked into Pulse nightclub on June 12 and opened fire, he killed 49 people and injured 53.
The law enforcement response was swift and massive, city relief programs went into overdrive and Orlando Regional Medical Center staff worked around the clock to treat dozens of shooting victims.

There is a monetary cost as well. According to recently released information from Orlando city government, the response to the Pulse shooting cost more than $1.7 million.
The city of Orlando and ORMC took the brunt of the cost, with the city paying more than $420,000 just in overtime.
In all, the Pulse shooting response cost the city nearly $600,000.
Surgeries, staff, ongoing care and other expenses at ORMC totaled $632,000.
The response to the Pulse shooting by a dozen other local agencies resulted in the $1.7 million price tag.
