ORLANDO, Fla. — Some residents at an Orlando condominium are relieved to learn of Friday’s special ruling by the county to force current management to get the condos up to code.
Residents of the Blossom Park Condominiums on Landstreet Road said despite the many code violation all around the buildings, they have nowhere else to go.
In addition to a previous order to repair stairs, walkways and rails, a three-page order also mandates each dwelling unit have at least two readily accessible and separate exits.
All of the work must be complete by April 21.
Failure to comply brings a fine of $500 a day, in addition to the $500 a day already being assessed for other violations.
No one answered the door at the office when Channel 9 stopped by for a comment.
The manager, Frank Barber, said he’s not yet seen the order and couldn’t comment because he needed to contact management’s attorney.
“There (are) some elderly people here that need help. They have no family and they only get one check. They won’t qualify in any other complex with their homes,” said resident Steven Matias.
The fines already owed for code violations on the property tally to more than $430,000.
Blossom Park’s court-appointed management has 30 days to appeal the new order, but that won’t change the fines or deadlines.
