Court lifts injunction banning abortions at Kissimmee Planned Parenthood

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando can again perform abortions and other procedures—at least for now.

An appeals court lifted an injunction Wednesday for the Oak Commons Boulevard clinic across from the Osceola Regional Medical Center.

When the clinic opened back in May as the first facility to offer abortions in the county, protestors were out in full force and an off-duty officer was stationed there on the clinic’s dime.

People showed up at a city commission meeting even before that to express outrage.

"I'm not against women's health care, I'm against abortion. Abortion is something that ends the life of a beautiful baby and that baby, no matter how it got here is still a gift.  And if a woman doesn't want to care for the baby there are hundreds of people who would love to take over," said Osceola County resident Anita Morin.

Planned Parenthood said at the time that abortions make up less than 10 percent of the health services they provide, which includes affordable access to mammograms and screenings for sexually transmitted diseases.

After this latest legal development, Planned Parenthood officials released a statement saying they were pleased the court recognized an injunction was wrongly entered.
