Crooks use park bench to smash window, break into gun store

CASSELBERRY, Fla. — Police said they're investigating a break-in at a Seminole County gun store early Friday morning.

The burglary happened at the Southern Guns store on Highway 17-92, Casselberry police said. Authorities said the crooks smashed a window with a park bench to get inside the store.

"There's been a lot of break-ins with gun shops," Southern Guns owner Casey Burke said.

Burke said he's fortunate because it appears the suspects didn't have time to get away with any weapons.

"It looks like they came in and broke a few things," Burke said. "I was just here a few hours ago, so it looks like nothing's missing."

Burke believes Casselberry police officers moved in so quickly that they scared the crooks away.

Southern Guns isn't the only gun shop to be targeted in the past year. Straight Arms and Al's Army Navy store were both burglarized and had firearms stolen.

Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating.
