LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation might make changes to a Lake County curve that drivers have said is dangerous.
People who live along State Road 19 and Grove Street in Eustis told Channel 9's Mike Manzoni in April that they stay awake at night wondering when another vehicle will plow through their homes.
An official with FDOT told Eyewitness News Wednesday that crews are considering signs and lights along State Road 19 to make it safer.
Crews with the state have already added digital speed signs to let people know how fast they’re driving in a 30 mph zone.
An official with the state told Eyewitness News they’ll also consider changes to the “sharp curve signs” to make the road safer by adding flashing yellow-and-black arrow signs.
At least 25,000 vehicles travel along the portion of State Road 19 every day.
Many homeowners in the area told Eyewitness News how cars have slammed into their homes or they’ve heard wrecks.
“I went out and there was a S10 in my tub,” resident Heather Sage said.
Officers with the Eustis Police Department have also stepped up patrols to crackdown on speeders near the curve.
A timeline for when the changes could be made to the signs has not been announced by FDOT.
