Daytona Beach police officer arrested following domestic incident

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Daytona Beach Police Department said one of its officers is on paid leave after being arrested in Port Orange Saturday night.

Officials said Officer Sarah Martin was arrested by Port Orange police following a domestic incident involving her estranged partner, another Daytona Beach police officer, Tabitha Martin.

"We were advised she was charged with grand theft of a firearm, domestic battery and written threats," said Jimmie Flynt with Daytona Beach police.

According to police, Sarah Martin suspected Tabitha Martin was spending time with another woman said Sarah Martin allegedly text her estranged wife and said "I'm coming for you."

Officers said Sarah Martin punched Tabitha Martin and stole her police-issued handgun from her Port Orange home. The woman is also accused of texting the victim and saying she "wouldn't stop" and was going to kill the other woman and herself.

Sarah Martin has been employed with the Daytona Beach Police Department since 2008, but was terminated in 2010 for untruthfulness and misuse of a computer, officials said.

Sarah Martin was reinstated 18 months later during a grievance process where she agreed to 18 months of suspension without pay, according to police. She has since bonded out of the Volusia County Jail.
