One killed in College Park crash

ORLANDO, Fla. — A fiery crash forced police to shut down a main artery into Orlando’s College Park early Wednesday morning.

Orlando police told Eyewitness News at least one person died in the crash along Princeton Street near College Lane.

Officers responded shortly after 1 a.m. and discovered a pickup truck ran into the neighborhood’s well-known welcome sign along Princeton Street.

The brick sign, which sits just east of Edgewater Drive and reads, " Welcome to Downtown College Park,” sustained obvious damage.

Investigators said after the impact, the truck caught fire.

The driver, who died, has not been identified.

Police have not released details on what may have caused the crash but said no one else was involved.

OPD reopened the stretch of Princeton Street around 5:30 a.m.
