Deputies: Boyfriend arrested in connection with pregnant woman's shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the shooting of a pregnant woman, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said Jeremiah Patrick, 26, was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder.

The shooting was reported at 4:16 a.m. Tuesday at a home on the 1600 block of Trumbo Street in Winter Garden, detectives said.

“Everywhere you look, somebody's got a gun, somebody owns a gun, somebody just got shot because of a gun," said neighbor Sebrenda Mitchell.

The incident was initially reported as a drive-by shooting, but deputies said later that the information was not consistent with the results of their investigation.

The 33-year-old shooting victim, LaConstance Thomas, is 8 months' pregnant, deputies said.

“A quiet person. She walks with her little son and there's no problems. So I don't know why anyone would even want to shoot her,” said Mitchell.

Thomas was taken to Winnie Palmer Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, and her unborn child was not injured, the sheriff’s office said.
