Deputies: Man shot friend over business transaction

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County man tried to kill his friend over the weekend, investigators said.

Deputies said Lawrence Craig, 64, shot into his neighbor's home on Greenwood Avenue.

The victim, Larry Chenoweth, 63, who was struck in the arm and neck, told investigators Craig was upset over a business transaction.

Craig's son-in-law said Craig had a list of people he was planning to kill, and Chenoweth was at the top.

Deputies said they put Craig's house under surveillance and took him into custody shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday as he was crawling under a fence in a neighbor's yard.

A Sheriff's K-9 unit later located the shotgun believed to be used in the shooting in a nearby yard, partially buried under dirt and leaves, investigators said.

Craig was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on charges of attempted first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling and use of a weapon while in the commission of a felony.
