SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday afternoon, Robert Christopher Jacobsen took more than 300 flower vases from Highland Memory Gardens in unincorporated Apopka.
Last November, deputies said a visitor at the cemetery told the cemetery superintendent that their loved one’s bronze flower vase was gone from the tombstone. The cemetery superintendent said during the investigation, he noticed 67 cases. During the following week, the cemetery superintendent told deputies another 268 vases were taken.
Deputies said a scrap metal dealer contacted them after they said Jacobsen tried to sell a large number of bronze cemetery vases. The scrap metal dealer said he denied the sales transaction, but wrote down the suspect’s license and tag information and gave it to authorities.
Deputies said after their investigation, they determined Jacobsen stole 335 vases, valued at more than $60,000 from Highland Memory Gardens and sold them to Orlando area scrap metal dealers between November and December of last year.
