DNC gives Clinton 7-point bump; Democratic candidate tops Trump by 9 points in presidential race

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Surveys taken after the Republican and Democratic national conventions show that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s message resonated with more people than that of her opponent, billionaire business mogul Donald Trump.

Clinton struck a chord with women, minorities and independents, which was a big part of her boost in the polls, experts said.

She now leads in the polls with 52 points over Trump’s 43.

Trump has been reeling in recent days as he works to put out fires caused by his inflammatory comments about the parents of a Muslim war hero who spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

Leaders inside the Republican Party and out reacted strongly to Trump’s comments.

If pollsters count Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson and presumptive Green Party nominee Jill Stein, Clinton is still ahead of Trump by 8 points.

The Clinton campaign will be in Central Florida on Tuesday, with vice presidential hopeful Tim Kaine speaking about jobs at Daytona State College.

Kaine is expected to speak at about 3 p.m.
