Tuesday’s hearing lasted all of 8 minutes, and Macean was in attendance.

Back in February, a judge determined that Macean was not mentally fit to stand trial and sent him to a state hospital.

However, the medical staff now believes that Macean has regained his mental competency.

According to the police, during Bike Week of 2022, Macean was captured on surveillance video in Daytona Beach following a couple riding bicycles back home from the festivities on Main Street.

Investigators say he attacked them by repeatedly stabbing and slashing them. Terry and Brenda Aultman had no prior interactions with Macean.

If Macean goes to trial and is found guilty, he could face the possibility of receiving a death sentence.

Doctors have previously testified Macean had mental health issues, including schizophrenia, which is why he was hospitalized in the first place.

Macean’s defense asked the judge for more time to have Macean evaluated by their own doctors.

The judge set a conference status hearing for June 23 at 8:30 a.m. to determine if Macean if competent enough to stand trial.
