Driver in deadly hit-and-run threatened witness, prosecutors say

ORLANDO, Fla. — A driver charged in a July hit-and-run that killed one person is facing an accusation of threatening an eyewitness that could put him in jail.

Troopers said Jonathan Marsh stopped on Lake Underhill Road and backed into Bruce Kuiper, killing him.

The witness whom Marsh is accused of threatening was in Marsh's vehicle at the time of the accident. He said he and Marsh used to be close friends and that they both attended Bishop Moore High School.

The witness said he went to law enforcement officers after he learned that someone had died.

Prosecutors said someone at the school told the witness that Marsh "wants to harm him." The threat was issued after the interview of the witness explaining the crash was released, prosecutors said.

"Unless the state can show that the defendant made this threat through a third party, they can't prosecute this case," WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.

Marsh is already facing 30 years in prison for vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash with a death.

The State Attorney's Office could not comment because the case has yet to go to trial.
