Dyer gives State of the City Address at UCF College of Medicine

ORLANDO, Fla.,None — Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer gave his State of the City Address on Wednesday.

Dyer delivered the speech at the University Of Central Florida's College of Medicine at Lake Nona and he said the state of the city is strong.

Dyer talked about the city's emerging bio-tech industry.

Dyer is the first mayor to take the State of the City Address on the road, and he toured a new development, which is the closest neighborhood to Medical City.

Medical City was one of the accomplishments Dyer was touting, saying that this year the construction jobs will begin to transition to the 30,000 permanent jobs there.

Dyer also talked about projects that were once big plans, but are now reality, like the Amway Center hosting the NBA All-Star game, along with SunRail.

He also talked about what will soon replace the old Amway Arena.

"When the Amway Arena is imploded next month, we'll be transforming the site into a live-work-play campus that's home to companies and cutting edge companies, like digital imaging and modeling and simulation," Dyer said.

Dyer also touted successes in crime reduction, but pointed to home burglaries and other property crimes that the city needs to focus more attention on. He said that will happen in the year to come.
