Cocoa Beach hit-and-run that left woman dead may have been intentional

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — Friends of an Orlando woman who was found dead on a Cocoa Beach road in mid-October are seeking justice and put up hundreds of fliers about the case on Saturday.

Jessica Erausquin's body was found on Rose Drive, a residential cul-de-sac, on October 16 and police said her death is the result of a hit-and-run.

"We want to touch the community, touch their hearts and know that Jessica needs justice," said the victim's best friend, Tanya Durham.

Durham and several others gathered thousands of fliers about the 27-year-old's death and posted them throughout Cocoa Beach.

"We're going to do whatever we can do to make sure it is solved. If that means touching every person we come in contact to, we will do that," said Durham.

Investigators said the case is being classified as a traffic homicide.

"It's a homicide that's involving a vehicle of some sort," said Cocoa Beach police investigator Rick Colon.

"So do detectives believe she was intentionally hit and killed?" asked reporter Anthony DiLorenzo.

"That's what were trying to figure out," said Colon.

Even strangers joined Erausquin's friends to help distribute the fliers.

"This could be my friends, my family, my sister. She could have been me," said volunteer Kirsten McCluskey.

The group said they don't plan to give up and want Erausquin's killer brought to justice.

"We plan to attack all of Brevard County, Palm Bay, Melbourne, Cocoa Beach, Cocoa. Our friend was murdered out there and we have no answers," said Durham.

Durham told Channel 9 Erausquin had a passion for the law and had just graduated from Keiser University with a degree in forensic investigations.

"If this happened to one of us, she would have done this for us and that's what we're trying to do for her," said Durham.

Anyone with information about Erausquin's death is asked to contact the Cocoa Beach Police Department.
