JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man from Jacksonville who was a bartender at the Pulse nightclub, the scene of a mass shooting in Orlando, is waiting to go into surgery, his family tells Action News Jax.
Rodney Sumter Jr.'s mother told Action News Jax that her son was hit by bullets in both arms and then shot on the back, running away.
Sumter's family said "he's in line for surgery. There are so many others in more serious shape," at the hospital.

Sumter's brother Marquel said the father of two is "alive and overwhelmed."
Sumter is a former wide receiver for Jacksonville University from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, he caught 24 passes for seven touchdowns. He played prep football at Fletcher High in Neptune Beach.
Action News Jax's Paige Kelton checked in with Sumter's family on Sunday night. Sumter's mother said he will have surgery on Monday, as others who are more seriously injured are going into surgery first.
