Family members of Ocoee nursing home residents with COVID-19 outbreak plan protest to demand better communication

OCOEE, Fla. — Family members of those living inside an Ocoee nursing home that is experiencing an COVID-19 outbreak are planning a protest next weekend to demand change.

Family members have issued concerns over a lack of communication from Ocoee Health Care Center, where six residents have died from the virus. They said they are tired of trying to fight for information about their mothers, grandparents or wives.

Wanda Beaulac said she still doesn’t know if her mother, Wanda Belt, is one of the 100 in the facility who tested positive.

“It’s hard on a family when you don’t know what’s going on in there,” Beaulac said.

A Facebook page called “Protest for better care and communication” includes the details for the rally on Sunday, Aug. 16, at noon.

“And maybe something will be done about it,” Beaulac said. “That’s my hope is that something will be done.”
