ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The father of a man killed in a suspected DUI crash near International Drive is sharing more about his son and the family affected by the tragedy.
William Cariscollo identified his son as 29-year-old Nelson Cariscollo. He spoke with Channel 9 reporter Q McCray and provided photographs of Nelson with his girlfriend and their 7-month-old baby.
Nelson’s girlfriend was the passenger seriously injured in the crash, his father said. She is also the mother of the couple’s child.
The crash happened early Sunday at Central Florida Parkway and International Drive.
As Channel 9 previously reported, Florida Highway Patrol investigators said 19-year-old Christopher Laureda was driving a 2004 Ford F-250 west on Central Florida Parkway when he ran a red light.
The pickup entered the path of a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta traveling south on International Drive, according to troopers. The front of the truck struck the driver’s side of the Jetta, causing the pickup to overturn.
Nelson was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died. His girlfriend was transported to the hospital as a trauma alert with serious injuries.
Investigators said Laureda left the crash scene on foot before Orange County deputies found and detained him.
Laureda was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. He was being held without bond, according to jail records.
FHP said its investigation remains active and additional charges are pending.
McCray is continuing to speak with Nelson’s family and will have more on Channel 9 Eyewitness News.
