None — The Food and Drug Administration now says it's considering tightening restrictions for the levels of arsenic allowed in apple juice.
The Doctor Oz show first called attention to the dangerous levels of arsenic in September.
At that point, critics and the FDA argued what Oz found was a mostly harmless form of arsenic.
But new tests by Consumer Reports (see video here) uncovered much higher levels of the more dangerous form of arsenic and lead in some samples.
WFTV spoke with Dr. Mehmet Oz and he said he also has growing concerns about where the nation's juice comes from.
“I'm very concerned about foreign sources of arsenic because we can't regulate the sources in those juices and concentrate. China provides about 60% of juice and concentrate. We only make about 20%. The foreign sources are ones we've got to be especially careful about,” he said.
The FDA said it is stepping up its testing and research on the issue.
The agency is taking a closer look at the effects of drinking large amounts of juice over long periods of time.
Dr. Oz will dedicate Thursday's show to the apple juice controversy. It airs at 4 p.m. on WFTV Channel 9 and at 9 p.m. on Central Florida's TV 27.
