The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been called in to investigate what happened at the shopping plaza.

“We’re looking at the officer’s body worn camera video, the store video,” Chief Orlando Rolon said.

Rolon said the man was taken into custody and suffered a medical episode following an encounter with an Orlando police officer.

“There was something going on to let the officer believe that he may have been involved in some type of drug activity,” Rolon said. “They provided Narcan. They actually did CPR on him.”

The man died at the hospital.

“They found control, a control substance on him and in him. Therefore, that may have played a role,” Rolon said.

Zericka Payne identified the man who died as her son, 31-year-old Isaih Payne.
