Felony charges filed against driver in Orange Co. fatal day care crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man charged in a hit-and-run crash that ended in the death of a child at an East Orange County day care center is facing new felony charges.

Robert Corchado was originally charged with starting the chain reaction crash and leaving the scene.

But Monday, WFTV found out that Corchado is charged with the second crash into the Kindercare Day Care Center.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Corchado hit the car in front of him on Goldenrod Road and kept driving.

FHP said the driver Corchado crashed into tried to avoid the collision by speeding up, but ended up crashing into the day care.

Lily Quintus, 4, died at the scene.

Investigators said Corchado abandoned his Dodge Durango at a friend's house, and went into hiding in a rented vehicle hours later.

After a massive manhunt was launched, he agreed to turn himself in at the Orange County Jail.

Corchado is being held on $410,000 bail.

His trial has not been scheduled, but he will be back in court in November.
