FHP: Driver found in deadly Brevard Co. hit and run crash

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — State troopers believe they've found the man behind a hit-and-run crash that killed a Brevard County woman and they did it with some help from the suspect's co-workers.

The crash left Tedah Branch, 34, dead along the side of A-1-A south of Cocoa Beach. She was walking along the roadway near Patrick Air Force base overnight almost two weeks ago when a driver hit her and kept going.

Monday authorities found Amit Datt, the driver they believe hit her.

His Facebook page shows he's a branch manager at a Hertz Rental Car office in Melbourne and Troopers believe he was driving one of those rental vehicles when the crash happened.

Troopers said after the crash, Datt brought that rental van back to a rental office claiming he thought he hit a deer.

Authorities said the Hertz workers got suspicious after hearing news reports about the crash and turned the car over to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Datt didn't answer the door when WFTV's Kenneth Craig went to his Oveido apartment Monday night.

Charges are pending against him, but he has not been arrested. State troopers said they are still working to get physical evidence off the car, tying it to the hit and ran, before they can make an arrest.

Troopers said other than a few tickets, Datt has a clean driving history.
