Firefighters battle brushfire near Marion County high school

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Firefighters worked into the morning Tuesday to put out a large brush fire in Ocala.

The fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. Monday along SE Maricamp Road, not far from Forest High School.

Firefighters said the fire, totaling more than four acres, has been burning through several 20-foot-tall piles of trees and mulch.

More than two dozen firefighters with Marion County Fire Rescue were still working around midnight to contain the brush fire and protect nearby homes.

Fire officials said they are investigating how the fire started.
