NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — The New Smyrna Beach Police Department arrested 50-year-old Denis Keeran, a school guardian at New Smyrna Beach High School, on Saturday after an investigation into his actions on campus led to criminal charges.
The investigation began Oct. 7 when an NSBPD school resource officer observed Keeran using his cell phone to photograph female students as they walked past him on campus. The officer noted that Keeran was holding his phone at his side near his upper thigh while taking the photographs.
Following the SRO’s observation, police initiated an investigation to determine whether any criminal activity had occurred. Keeran was disarmed and prohibited from returning to the high school campus while the inquiry was underway.
Investigators subsequently conducted a search of Keeran’s cell phone. During the search, officers discovered five videos depicting adults engaging in sexual activity with horses.
Police confirmed that no criminal images of students were located on the device; he was charged with four animal cruelty charges stemming directly from the possession of the videos depicting sexual activity involving animals.
