Fla. state trooper jailed for not showing up to court

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida state trooper will spend the next five days in jail, because he didn't show up for court in the case of a repeat DUI offender.

Trooper John Costa arrested Stephanie Halcomb last year for suspected DUI in Volusia County.

Because he didn't show up for court, her trial was thrown out.

Costa has been with the Florida Highway Patrol since 2007.

FHP said it believes this is the only time a trooper has ever been jailed for contempt of court.
