Florida Health Department gives out thousands of home COVID-19 test kits ahead of Thanksgiving

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Health Department in Seminole County gave away thousands of free, at home COVID-19 test kits Tuesday ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

With less than three days to go before Thanksgiving, there was no shortage of takers for the fast, reliable tests.

Even before Tuesday’s 10 a.m. start time, people began lining up at Seminole State College in Lake Mary to get their hands on one of the tests. Within 30 minutes, all 2,000 tests were gone.

“Well I think there are times you wonder if you’ve been infected,” one woman said as she waited for a test. “Rather than go to lab-corp, this is a good first start.”

Each person who was in line early enough received a box with six Binax-NOW rapid, at-home COVID-19 test kits which can be used in conjunction with telehealth providers.

The test takes approximately 15 minutes to produce results.
