Florida officials host ‘Don’t Be Fooled By Scams’ workshop in The Villages

THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Sen. Ashley Moody is hosting a “Don’t Be Fooled By Scams” workshop today, April 1, 2026, at the Olympia Recreation Center in The Villages.

The event begins at 1:30 p.m. and aims to provide seniors and caregivers with tools to identify and report fraud.

The workshop focuses on protecting vulnerable populations in The Villages and surrounding communities from both common and emerging scams.

It is designed to improve coordination between law enforcement, financial institutions and community partners to address the growing threat of fraud targeting older adults.

State officials joining Sen. Moody include State Attorney Bill Gladson and Florida Office of Financial Regulation Commissioner Russell Weigel. Florida Department of Elder Affairs Secretary Michelle Branham will also be in attendance to provide information on protecting older adults.

Area law enforcement will be represented by Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods and Sumter County Sheriff Patrick Breeden. Crime Line Director Barb Bergin is also scheduled to participate in the workshop.
