ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida teenagers could face new restrictions on when and how long they can use social media under a proposal introduced by Attorney General James Uthmeier.
Uthmeier proposed the SAFE Screens Act on Thursday.
The measure would require social media apps to shut down access for teenagers ages 14 to 17 starting at 11 p.m.
The proposal would also limit teens in that age group to two hours of social media use per day and 60 hours per month.
If adopted, the measure would place new limits on teenagers’ access to social media platforms, including restrictions on late-night use and total time spent on the apps.
Further legislative action would be needed before the restrictions could take effect.
