Florida reports more than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases for second day in a row

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida reported more than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases for the second day in a row on Friday.

The state reported a total of 10,177 new cases bringing the state’s total number of cases since the pandemic began to 1,039,207.

On Friday, the state also reported an additional 124 deaths, with all but four of those being Florida residents. The state’s total death toll from the virus is now 19,236.

Of the most recent deaths, 19 were reported in Central Florida. The new cases also include 1,795 locally.

Orange County announced plans this week that businesses could be fined up to $5,000 a day for repeat COVID-19 protocol violations, according to a draft plan released by the county on Thursday.

If approved, the draft plan, which Mayor Jerry Demings is set to discuss in a news conference on Friday, outlines the possible fines businesses could face if they did not uphold the expected protocols — ranging from mask-wearing to social distancing.
