Florida reports more than 13,000 new COVID-19 cases, 122 virus-related deaths

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida health officials reported 13,147 new cases of COVID-19 as vaccines are being distributed across Central Florida.

There were another 122 deaths linked to the virus, according to the Florida Department of Health. Of the recent deaths, 24 were reported in Central Florida.

To date, there have been 1,247,546 cases of COVID-19 reported in the state.

The state’s death toll now stand at 21,295, according to the most recent report.

Seminole County and the Florida Department of Health began vaccinating some residents on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Seminole County received 8,100 Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. On Wednesday morning, vaccine dispensing began for Seminole County’s priority group 1A, which includes health care workers delivering direct frontline services such as COVID-19 testing and treatment, county and municipal EMTs and paramedics and Florida Department of Health staff.

The county will administer vaccines in accordance with the State of Florida’s order of prioritized groups, which are:

Priority 1A:

  • Residents 65 years and older;
  • Residents/staff in long term care facilities;

Priority 1B:

  • Law Enforcement;
  • 9-1-1 operators; and
  • Non-clinical critical/public health workers.
