Florida voters await final tallies in close congressional races

Both districts were redrawn by Governor DeSantis to give republicans an advantage in the November elections

ORLANDO, Fla. — Voters in two congressional districts still don’t know who will represent them in Washington.

Florida election results by county

Election supervisors said District 7 and District 9 congressional districts are too close to call.

Both districts were redrawn by Governor DeSantis to give republicans an advantage in the November elections.

Former News Anchor Ryan Elijah is facing off against Navy Veteran Bale Dalton in the District 7 race. Elijah and Dalton are both political newcomers.

Elijah, who leads the race with 1,701 votes out of more than 320,000 ballots cast, declared victory, even though the Supervisor of Elections has yet to announce a winner.

“We are confident Ryan has secured the votes needed to win,” said Erin Isaac, a campaign spokeswoman. “There simply aren’t enough ballots to change the outcome. Ryan is preparing for the important work ahead and looks forward to serving the people of Congressional District 7.”

Dalton pushed back. “This race remains too close to call, and it is incumbent on all of us not to pretend otherwise until all ballots are counted,” he said in a statement. “Every single Central Floridian deserves to have their voice heard. We will wait as long as it takes for every single ballot to be tallied.”

District 9 Democratic Rep. Darren Soto, who would normally cruise to re-election within hours after the polls closed, found himself in a tough fight with Dan Green, a Navy veteran and Pentagon appointee, who is backed by President Trump.

Soto has taken the lead with 1,477 votes out of more than 284,000 votes cast. He holds a .052 % lead over Green, which makes this race ineligible for a recount.
