‘Forever with us’: Orlando City honors the legacy of 2 journalists at season opener

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando City Soccer paid tribute to two journalists ahead of their season opener Saturday.

In a social media post, the team honored the lives of Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons, 24, and American soccer journalist Grant Wahl, 49, with custom jerseys before their match against the New York Bulls.

The jersey for Lyons shows a number 13 to represent the news station where he worked.

Lyons was covering a homicide in Orange County when he was killed.

Suspect Keith Moses returned to the same scene of the earlier shooting and shot Lyons and photojournalist Jesse Walden.

Last December, Wahl was covering the World Cup in Qatar when he suffered an aortic aneurysm, or a ruptured blood vessel, according to the Associated Press.

Wahl spent 25 years as a writer for Sports Illustrated and covered every World Cup since 1994.

According to a release, Orlando City has never lost a home opener through its eight seasons in Major League Soccer.
