FWC reminds people to be ‘BearWise’ as black bears activity increases in Florida

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is reminding people in Central Florida to look out for and help prevent interactions with black bears.

FWC said black bears in Florida are getting more active now that spring has started.

FWC agents are reminding residents of some of the key things they can do to prevent conflicts with bears.

The most important reminder is to remove food, garbage, and birdseed from around your property.

It is also illegal to intentionally feed bears in Florida.

Pet food should also not be left outdoors.

Anyone who sees someone either harming bears or intentionally feeding them is asked to call the FWC’s Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.
