Some good Samaritans in Ocala who rushed to help a shooting victim nearly got caught up in a second round of gunfire, authorities said.
People ran to pull a man from a car after he was shot in an Ocala neighborhood, but a neighbor told Channel 9's Myrt Price Wednesday, that's when the gunmen came back and started shooting again.
OCALA, Fla. — "It’s scary when everything is normal and all of a sudden you hear gunshots, and you don't know where it’s coming from or what's happening," said resident Vanessa Robinson.
Robinson said she arrived at the 2000 block of SW 4th Street only moments after the shooting, to visit a friend.
"I would have probably been right in the middle of it, and I thank God that didn't happen," said Robinson.
Neighbors said shots rang out and someone who was shot was driving down SW 4th Street and swerving on the road.
They said the driver hit several mailboxes and eventually crashed into a fence, causing damage.
Witnesses said good Samaritans were trying to help the driver out of the car when they said the gunmen drove up and started shooting again and then drove away.
Neighbors said the culprits left bullet holes in cars.
“It’s not a good thing when home is not safe anymore. You know, you can be sitting in your own home and minding your own business and you can catch a stray bullet, and that’s what scares me the most," said Robinson.
Investigators said Jeremy Willis and Jeffrey Aaron went to the emergency room with gunshot wounds, but they did not say whether the two were suspects in the shootings.
