Health officials warn of possible increase in COVID-19 cases after Super Bowl

ORLANDO, Fla. — After the Super Bowl, many health officials are concerned that events like watch parties may have helped spread COVID-19.

Health officials say with so many small gatherings in honor of the big game, we could see a rise in coronavirus cases in the coming weeks.

Dr. Tim Hendrix with AdventHealth says if you partied outside of your bubble Sunday, you’ll want to keep a close eye on how you are feeling.

“Usually within a week or two weeks afterward, we see an increase in people coming in and testing positive and the request for testing,” Hendrix said.

While there has been a steady decline in our positive case rates for the month, there have been more and more instances of the new variants.

“We know that we’ve got 200 cases we’re reporting in Florida of this variant, but that’s what we’re testing for, so it’s probably more pervasive than we think,” Hendrix said.

Despite more and more of the vaccine being released, health professionals say people need to continue protective measures like wearing your mask in public.
