Heat wave ends across Central Florida as storms return this weekend

Central Florida heat wave ends Friday with storms and heavy rain possible.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The recent heat wave is coming to an end across Central Florida, with more typical summertime conditions returning Friday.

Most of Central Florida will avoid heat advisories Friday, with the exception of Flagler County, where a heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Temperatures will climb into the low 90s across the region, while heat index values are expected to peak between 98 and 104 degrees.

While that is still hot, it marks a return to more typical summertime heat following the recent stretch of excessive temperatures.

Scattered afternoon thunderstorms will be possible Friday as moisture increases across the region. Some storms could move slowly, producing pockets of heavy rainfall.

Strong thunderstorm wind gusts are also possible with the strongest storms, so residents should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions during the afternoon and evening.

The summertime pattern will continue through the weekend, with highs in the low 90s and scattered afternoon storms each day.

While temperatures will remain hot, the return of more typical summer conditions means the end of the recent heat wave for most of Central Florida.

Residents heading outside should continue to stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat and seek shelter indoors if a strong thunderstorm approaches.
