ORLANDO, Fla. — Youth members and adult volunteers from the Orlando Devil Dogs Young Marines joined approximately 150 Young Marine members nationwide in Window Rock, Ariz., on Aug. 14, 2026. The gathering honored World War II Navajo Code Talkers and their families.

The event coincided with the Navajo Nation’s annual celebration of the elite group of veterans. During World War II, the Navajo Code Talkers transmitted top-secret tactical messages across enemy lines using the Navajo language, creating the only military code that the Japanese never broke. Only two of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers remain alive.

The Young Marines have traveled to Arizona each year since 2006. During the annual trips, members meet with remaining Code Talker survivors and their families to hear their accounts in person.
