LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Animal Shelter received 85 dogs from a high-volume pet owner Tuesday, marking the largest canine intake in the shelter’s history.

The new arrivals bring the total number of animals under the shelter’s care to 423. Each dog is undergoing a medical evaluation and receiving necessary care.

The shelter is seeking help from rescue organizations that can accept 10 or more small dogs from the case or assist with placing other animals currently in its care. Rescue groups can contact animalrescue@lakecountyfl.gov.

“This is the largest canine intake in the history of our shelter, and our team is making sure each of these dogs receives the medical attention, care and compassion they need,” shelter director Whitney Boylston said.

The 85 dogs are not currently available for adoption. Shelter officials said residents can help create space by adopting other available animals or by donating supplies or money.

The shelter is located at 12280 County Road 448 in Tavares. Visit the Lake County Animal Shelter website to view available animals or learn how to help.
