Hurricane Isaias intensifies into Category 2 storm ahead of landfall

Hurricane preparations urged ahead of potential Friday night landfall

CENTRAL FLA. — Hurricane Isias continues to churn in the central Gulf and is forecast to intensify further.

The 8 pm intermediate advisory from the National Hurricane Center had winds of 100 mph, making Isaias a Category 2 hurricane.

Hurricane Warnings remain in effect for portions of the Gulf Coast, including the western Florida Panhandle.

Tropical Storm Warnings continue for the remainder of the Panhandle to near Apalachee Bay.

Hurricane preparations should be completed in those areas by daybreak Friday.

Isias will likely make landfall either late Friday night or very early Saturday morning in the far western Florida Panhandle.
