Investigators: DNA, fingerprint evidence solve Volusia County cold case

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — In the early morning hours of March 28, 2010, a 40-year-old woman became the victim of a violent home invasion and sexual battery.

On Tuesday, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in the case when it got a hit on DNA and fingerprint evidence.

Jamedd L. Ross, 23, was arrested Tuesday morning after leaving court in a separate criminal case, the sheriff’s office said.

He admittedly confessed to the 2010 break-in and assault.

The victim in the 2010 case told investigators at the time that she was sleeping in her Deltona home when someone broke into her house and tied her down.

She said she was physically and sexually assaulted and then the person, or persons, stole cash and a TV from her home.

The scene was processed at the time but investigators were not able to make any headway in the case and it was suspended six months later, the sheriff’s office said.

It was reopened in February 2015 when a fingerprint technician matched a print from the 2010 crime scene to Ross. DNA evidence from the scene also matched Ross, deputies said.

He was charged with home invasion robbery with a weapon, sexual battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping with the intent to inflict bodily harm or terrorize the victim.
